Hi, my name is Queen, although I usually go by Queenie!  As you can see, I am gorgeous!  More importantly though, I am a really good girl who is often misunderstood.  I came to Ruff Start Rescue when I was about 3 years old and I have been waiting a long time to find my new family.  Prior to coming here my life is a mystery, because I was found as a stray.  I love my foster family and all but I really want a family to call my own and I am working hard so when the right one comes along, Ill be ready!
I would do best in a home with no other pets.  I dont like cats and I am very particular with what dogs I will share my space with.  I have lived with dogs in the past that I did not like, so I really want to be an only pet so I can build trust with my new family and continue to work on my training without any other distractions.  I also think that I should live with older kids (at least school age), if any.  Sometimes I can be jumpy and I would probably knock little ones over without meaning to. I live with two older kids right now (12 and 15) and enjoy being around them. I especially enjoy cuddling on the couch with them at the end of the day to watch Animal Planet (especially the dog shows)!  I think I would just need supervision at first with any kids, with guidance on how to be gentle with them.  I really just like being around my people and giving kisses (and baths) to anyone who will give me their attention, but when I first meet people I will bark sometimes and can come across as not so nice.  I really wish I knew how to say "Can you come over here and pet me please?".  At times I can get a little mouthy but I have been responding well to correction and now it only happens some when I am excited. This is how I played when I was a puppy and I never learned that its not how I should play with people.
I love, love, love to go for walks and car rides, but I am strong and can pull on my leash so at first it can seem like I am taking you for a walk.  I can be reactive to things that I see on my adventures out of the house (dogs, lawn mowers, bikes, motorcycles), but I am improving with this with the help of my foster family.   They are teaching me all sorts of new things that I'm getting pretty good at catching on to!  It sure helps a lot when they reward me with those yummy treats as I could probably learn how to do most anything because I am so smart (if I do say so myself!).  I know a few commands, like sit, shake, down, sit pretty, kennel and stay, and am continuing to work on more.  I am perfectly potty trained and kennel trained.  I go into my kennel without complaint and can spend the whole day in there while my family is away, but they think I can be trusted to be out of the kennel too.  I enjoy chewing on bones and playing with other toys, like ropes for tug of war or soft ones with squeakers, but those dont last long.
I am a dog that can have energy when I need to, but I am also content with just lying around.  On lazy days I love to find a sunny spot to take a nap in or just lounge around outside, I really enjoy being outdoors.    I am a good protector.  I alert my humans by barking when someone I don't know is around or I hear noises that I don't know where they are coming from.  I am learning that the word "quiet" means that my humans are also aware of them and I don't need to bark anymore because its okay.  So to recap, I am beautiful, smart, fun-loving, strong, playful, loyal, protective, and a really good girl that will make a great dog for the right family, could that be you?  I would love to meet you!
